Sean Payton is a professional American NFL coach who has been coaching in the NFL since 1988. As of the 2024 NFL season, he serves as the head coach of the Denver Broncos. Throughout his coaching career, Payton has contributed to teams such as the Philadelphia Eagles, the New York Giants, the Dallas Cowboys, and the New Orleans Saints, before joining the Broncos in 2023. Notably, as head coach of the Saints, he led the team to victory in Super Bowl XLIV. As of January 10, 2025, his head coaching record is 170–105 (.618) in the regular season, 9–8 (.529) in the postseason, and 179–113 (.613) overall.
During his formative years, Payton attended Naperville Central High School in Naperville, Illinois. After finishing high school in 1982, he committed to playing college football at Eastern Illinois University from 1983 to 1986 but went undrafted in the 1987 NFL Draft. Before beginning his coaching career, he played for the Chicago Bruisers, Pittsburgh Gladiators, Ottawa Rough Riders, and Chicago Bears in 1987, as well as the Leicester Panthers in 1988.
